WHAT A DIFFERENCE 25 YEARS MAKES

Today's Radically Different IT Picture as DeckerWright Celebrates 25 Years

How the IT world has changed in 25 years!

In 1984 technology companies such as Wang Laboratories, Digital Equipment, Control Data, Teradata, and AT&T Information Systems dominated the IT landscape; 25 years later, those companies no longer exist. In 1984 companies such as Dell, Microsoft and Apple were relatively small and rapidly growing technology companies; today they are the world's leading IT companies. Established industry leaders like IBM, HP, and Oracle were successful in 1984, and they continue to be successful. In 1984 DeckerWright Corporation started business operations, earning 100% of its revenue by placing contract software developers at Bell Laboratories. This year, the company celebrates 25 years in the IT industry.

Times may change, but the formula for ongoing success has remained remarkably consistent over the years. The IT companies that have survived and grown have all had the ability to identify emerging technology trends and adopt their business strategies around those trends. DeckerWright Corporation (DWC) is one of those companies. Here are some examples of how DWC has successfully adopted to emerging IT trends in order to effectively service our clients:

  • 1994 - registered the domain name deckerwright.com.
  • 1995 - became one of the first Microsoft Solutions Providers in the state. (The version of Microsoft Windows was 3.1, and the server operating system was NT 3.5.)
  • 2001 - became a Palm partner and started authoring applications for the Palm Pilot.
  • 2002 - started writing custom applications based on Windows, IIS and .ASP technologies.
  • 2005 - DWC launched TriNet Teledata, a provider of online services including online backups and e-mail spam filtering, and implemented the Job and Equipment Tracking System (JETS), streamlining job tracking and customer network documentation.
  • 2006 - converted its last Novell customer to a Windows based network.
  • 2007 - became a VMWare Professional Partner.
  • 2009 - became a Citrix Partner and launched a managed service product offering.

Thank you to the hundreds of customers we have had the privilege of serving over the last 25 years. We remain committed to our ongoing development of the technical capabilities needed to support you and your IT needs and look forward to our ongoing business relationships.

In the next five years, we recommend watching for the following trends in our industry:

  • Every server shipped will be a virtual machine allowing for rapid disaster recovery and server image portability.
  • Mobile computing will become an increasingly larger component of IT spending.
  • New security strategies will evolve to support a work force that will become even more mobile.
  • "Cloud" computing will become a standard fixture for most businesses as many server based solutions are replaced with "cloud based" business applications.
  • The "NETWORK" will become much more important as mobile devices, cloud computing, and distributed employee bases place a premium on fast, reliable, and inexpensive connectivity.
