HIPAA Document Retention

Electronic document retention standards for HIPAA are three years.  Since there are no paper documents with electronic medical records, the longer seven year document retention period should be observed.  These requirements will cause significant issues for healthcare providers over time.

Doctor's Office in the Clouds

We recently completed setting up a general practitioner's medical office in the "clouds".  The doctor started their own practice after being a partner in another practice for over 10 years.  Unlike a normal start, the doctor had a full waiting room on day one, so having working phones and computers was a must.  The Eatontown, NJ based medical practice used Cooperative Communications for VOIP phones and doc-tors.com for web based practice management and electronic medical records.  The solution included phones from Polycomm, HP computers, a Lexmark printer, scanners from Canon and Fujitsu and a SonicWall firewall.  DeckerWright Corporation setup the phones, computer network and internet access and provides network support.  Click on this link for the full article.
